Santorini in june is 26 to 29 degrees, a sea rising from 21 to 24 across the month, the longest days of the year, and a meltemi that has not properly settled in yet, so the boats sail almost every day. Everything is open, the villages are still walkable at midday, and prices sit a clear step below July and August.

Santorini Tours is a special place for holidays that will impress you for sure. This island of the Cyclades will give you mythical moments. Your sensations will develop superlatively, given over to the intensity of contrasts. Santorini is the island of the black earth with the whitewashed villages of the caldera and the wild volcanic sculptures with simple Cycladic lines.
Oia
Oia is located in the northern part of the island, at a distance of 11 kilometers from Fira. It is famous for its sunset. Oia was one of the five castles of Santorini (the castle of Agios Nikolaos). The settlement reached its peak in the late 19th and early 20th centuries thanks to shipping, transit trade, and agriculture.
Oia offers countless spots to enjoy the colors of the sunset, corners with fewer people, and 100% magnificent views!
On the north side of the island, we find Oia. Famous for its sunset. It is built at an altitude of 250 meters and captivates the visitor with its cobbled streets and the traditional cave houses carved into the rock and the captains’ houses. The Maritime Museum of Thira is located in Oia, while the Castle of Agios Nikolaos is worth a visit.
Lighthouse at Akrotiri
Enjoy the famous sunset from the lighthouse in Akrotiri! The view is unique and you can see the whole island and Oia in the background as the sun dips into the sea! The crowd is much less than in Oia.
The lighthouse at Akrotiri is one of the most beautiful in the Cyclades. It was built in 1892 by the French Lighthouse Society. The height of the tower is 10 meters. Renovated in 1925, it ceased operation during World War II and resumed operation in 1945. It was electrified in 1983 and automated in 1988.
What is the best place for sunset in Santorini in 2024?
If you haven’t seen enough sunsets, you should visit Santorini for this reason: to see the most beautiful sunset in the world.
Let us tour you privately to Santorini in 2024 during the sunset. A few moments before sunset, we will leave you to admire the vast horizon that stretches out in front of you with a fiery red sun somewhere deep in the Aegean. The sea loses its blue color and becomes reddish, like the volcanic lava that created Santorini!
There are days when the streets of Oia are filled with visitors from all over the world, who flock to see this unique sight of the Santorini sunset. The ruins of the castle of Agios Nikolaos, the churches, and the roofs are their usual destination, as everyone is looking for a place that will help them enjoy the unique sight and the dream-like atmosphere.
The unique combinations of colors as the sun sinks into the blue Aegean create a romantic setting that touches every visitor.
Where should you stay in Santorini in 2024?
Accommodation on the island of Santorini is quite expensive, especially in the tourist spots. Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia have hotels and villas with private pools, Caldera views, whitewashed interiors, luxury caves, and jacuzzis with endless views for amazing photos.
Wine tasting and local products in Santorini in 2024
The volcanic soils of Thira and Thirassia are considered fertile, however, in general, there is a lack of water since three boreholes supply the island. In these special soils, vines have been cultivated for at least 3500 years.
It has one of the oldest vineyards in the world and the main varieties grown in it are Assyrtiko (accounting for 80% of the production), Athiri, and Aidani in terms of whites while Mantilaria, Mavrotragano, and Voudomato are the reds.
The strong aroma of the wines, their special taste, and their high alcohol content have made them stand out worldwide. The island’s wine production has three PDO wines of superior quality: Assyrtiko, Nychteri, and Vincanto. You can take a Santorini wine tour and enjoy the local wines in the sunset.
Throughout the island, there are traditional and famous wineries, several of which are open to the public. Another excellent product is fava beans. It is a PDO product with a very special taste. Findings testify to its cultivation on the island since ancient times. A special agricultural product of the region is the tomato. It is an anhydrous variety that was introduced to the island from Egypt.
At the end of the 19th century, it was the main export product of the island as there were a total of 10 factories that produced Thira tomato paste at that time. Other traditional products are green cheese, spoon sweets, and liqueurs.

Santorini in June: The Short Answer
Santorini in june is the month most people should book. It runs 26 to 29 degrees, the sea comes up from 21 to 24 across the four weeks, the days are the longest of the year, and the meltemi has not properly settled in yet, so boats sail almost every day.
Everything is open in santorini in june, the villages are still walkable at midday, hotel prices sit a clear step below July and August, and the light lasts until nearly nine in the evening. The only thing high summer has over it is a warmer sea, and only by a degree or two.
Santorini in june divides in half. The first fortnight is late spring: quiet, green at the edges, and cheap by island standards. The second is summer with the crowds still arriving, which is the best trade available on the calendar.
The Weather, Week by Week
Week one. Santorini in june opens at 24 to 27 degrees, cool evenings, and the last of the spring feel. Some days still want a jacket after dark.
Week two. 26 to 28, warm nights, and the sea crossing 22 degrees. The quietest good week of santorini in june.
Week three. The peak of santorini in june: 27 to 29, the solstice, and daylight from about 06:00 to 20:50.
Week four. 28 to 30, the first proper meltemi spells, and the beginning of the July pattern.
Nights in santorini in june. 19 to 22 degrees. Warm enough to eat outside every evening and cool enough to sleep without air conditioning early in the month.
Rain. Santorini in june gets almost none. Around 5 millimetres for the whole month, and most years none at all.
Humidity. Low, 50 to 60 per cent, so the heat is dry and far easier than the same numbers in Athens.
Sunshine. Thirteen to fourteen hours of daylight, the longest of the year, which is worth more on a short trip than two degrees of sea temperature.
See the weather month by month.
The Sea
The sea is the one genuine compromise of santorini in june, and a smaller one than people expect.
Temperature. 21 to 22 degrees at the start of santorini in june and 23 to 24 by the end. Fresh on the first swim and entirely comfortable after that.
Where it is warmest. The shallow south-coast beaches: Perissa, Perivolos and Monolithos, where black sand heats the water.
Where it is coldest. Off a boat in the caldera, where the water is deep and clear and genuinely cold. It is also the best swim on the island.
The sand. Warm rather than scalding for most of santorini in june, so the beaches are usable at midday in a way they are not in August.
Sunbeds. Easy to find on any beach until the last week, and usually free if you eat at the taverna behind them.
See the beaches ranked.
How Busy It Is
The first fortnight of santorini in june. Comfortable. Oia is busy at sunset and walkable at every other hour, and the cable car queue is short.
The second fortnight. Filling steadily, with three to five cruise ships a day by the end of the month.
Restaurants. Book the rim, walk into everywhere else.
The sites. Akrotiri and Ancient Thira are both quiet before ten all month.
What is already crowded. Oia at sunset, from the first week. That never changes.
The comparison that matters. Santorini in june takes roughly a third fewer visitors than August, at prices that are 30 to 40 per cent lower, with weather almost as good.
What to Do This Month
The long evenings of santorini in june change what fits into a day, and that is the real advantage over high summer.
The rim walk. The best thing to do in santorini in june: Fira to Oia, ten kilometres, three to four hours, and comfortable in june in a way it is not in August. Start at eight and you finish before the heat.
A boat day. The meltemi is weak or absent for most of santorini in june, so cancellations are rare and the caldera is calm. Five to seven hours with swimming stops and lunch on board.
Akrotiri at opening. Roofed, cool and quiet before ten. Far better with a licensed guide, because the site explains almost nothing on its own. See Akrotiri.
Ancient Thira in the morning. Steep, exposed and usually empty, and still pleasant at nine.
Three wineries from five. The vines are in leaf, the previous vintage is in bottle, and the terraces are at their best in the long light. See the wine tour.
Sunset at nearly nine. Which means a full afternoon at a beach and a village walk before it, in a way that October cannot offer.
An inland village evening. Pyrgos, Emporio or Megalochori, where dinner outdoors in santorini in june needs no jacket and no booking.
The volcano. Nea Kameni is a thirty-minute climb over black rock, and june is the last month in which it is comfortable at midday.
What Is On in June
Analipsi and Agiou Pnevmatos. The two church feasts of santorini in june, both movable and tied to Orthodox Easter, with services and small village gatherings.
The first panigiria. Village saint’s-day feasts start now and run through the summer: free food, local wine and a band that starts at eleven at night.
The open-air cinema at Kamari. Opens for the season and is at its most pleasant in the long june evenings.
Wine events. Several wineries run tastings and dinners on their terraces once the season starts properly.
What is not on yet. The harvest, which begins in the last week of July, and Ifestia, which is a late-summer festival.
What It Costs
Santorini in june sits between shoulder and peak, and the difference from August is substantial.
Hotels, first fortnight. 150 to 260 a night for two on the caldera, 70 to 120 inland or on a beach.
Hotels, second fortnight. 200 to 330 on the caldera, 85 to 140 elsewhere.
Car hire in santorini in june. 35 to 55 a day, against 60 to 70 in August.
A shared catamaran. 90 to 140 each with lunch.
Dinner. 35 to 55 for two inland, 90 to 160 on the rim.
Wine tasting. 20 to 35 each per winery.
Transfers. 30 to 45 each way from the airport, fixed in advance. See transfers.
The comparison. A week for two in santorini in june costs roughly 30 per cent less than the same week in August, which on a caldera hotel is several hundred euros.
Where to Stay
Firostefani. The best base in santorini in june: caldera view with road access, ten level minutes from Fira, and cheaper than Oia. See Firostefani.
Imerovigli. The finest view on the island, with a great many steps that are far easier now than in August.
Fira. Central, walkable, on every bus route, and lively rather than loud until the end of the month.
Oia. Beautiful, impractical and expensive: no vehicle access and hotels well below the road. See Oia.
Kamari and Perissa. Flat, cheap, on the sea, and the sensible choice with children. See Kamari.
Megalochori and Pyrgos. Inland, quiet and the best food on the island. See Megalochori.
The june note. A pool matters less than a terrace this month, because the evenings are long and the middle of the day is still usable.
See where to stay.
Who June Suits
Different trips want different months, and santorini in june covers more of them than any other.
Walkers. Santorini in june is the best hiking month of the summer. The rim path, the caldera villages and Ancient Thira are all comfortable before eleven, which they are not from July onwards.
Couples and honeymooners. Long evenings, warm nights, terraces you can use until midnight, and prices well below the peak. Santorini in june is the month we book most honeymoons into.
Families. School holidays mostly have not started, so the beaches are quiet and the sea is warm enough for children from about the tenth.
Photographers. Fourteen hours of daylight, a very early sunrise at Oia and a very late blue hour at Firostefani, with two usable shooting windows either side of a long empty middle.
Anybody on a budget. The first fortnight is the cheapest week of the proper summer, at 30 per cent below August.
Cruise passengers. Calmer seas and shorter queues than later in the summer, and a shore day that actually fits. See the shore excursion.
Getting Here and Getting Around
Flights. The full summer schedule runs through santorini in june, with direct services from most of Europe and frequent Athens rotations.
Ferries. Five to eight hours from Piraeus, two from Mykonos, two from Heraklion, forty minutes from Ios, all on summer timetables.
Athinios. Every ferry docks thirty minutes below Fira, with no shade at the quay.
Car hire. Cheaper and easier to get than in high summer, and parking in Fira and Oia is still difficult from about the tenth.
Buses. Full frequency, and every route runs through Fira.
The rule. Never a ferry on the day you fly. Wind cancels boats far more often than it grounds planes, even in a calm santorini in june.
A Five-Night June Plan
Day 1. Arrive, unpack, walk the rim path at Firostefani in the long light, dinner locally at nine.
Day 2. Akrotiri at opening with a guide. Lunch in Megalochori. An hour at the pool. Three wineries from five. Dinner at Pyrgos.
Day 3. The best day of a santorini in june week: a boat at ten, swimming stops, lunch on board, Thirasia, and the cliff going gold at seven. Nothing afterwards.
Day 4. Oia at seven with a camera, breakfast at nine, the afternoon at Perivolos, and one booked dinner on the rim.
Day 5. The full rim walk from Fira to Oia starting at eight, a driver back, and an early dinner.
Day 6. A last swim, then home.
Three outings, one long walk, one empty afternoon and a spare day for the wind. A santorini in june week fits more than a july one, purely because you keep the middle of the day.
June Against the Other Months
Santorini in june against July. Two to three degrees cooler, noticeably quieter, 20 to 30 per cent cheaper, and longer days. The sea is a degree or two colder. For most visitors june wins comfortably.
Against August. Not close, and santorini in june wins on every measure but sea temperature. August is hotter, fuller, windier and far more expensive, with 15 August in the middle of it.
Against September. September has the warmest sea of the year and softer light; santorini in june has the longest days and the fresher landscape. The two are the best months on the calendar and the choice is genuinely personal.
Against May. May is cooler and cheaper again, with a sea at 19 or 20 that most people will not swim in, and some closures early in the month.
Against October. October is quieter and cheaper with a warm sea and short days, and by the end of it the flights and half the restaurants have gone.
What to Pack
A light jumper. Santorini in june evenings in the first fortnight are cool on the rim, and the wind adds to it.
Shoes you can walk in. This is a walking month, and every village is cobbled and stepped.
Swimwear. The sea is fresh rather than cold, and the pools are warm.
Sun protection and a hat. There is no natural shade anywhere on the island, and the june sun burns as readily as the august one.
Something for one dinner on the rim. Most places are relaxed; the sunset tables are the exception.
A refillable bottle. Tap water is desalinated; everybody drinks bottled.
Mistakes to Avoid
Assuming the sea in santorini in june is warm. It is 21 or 22 in the first week, which is fresh. If you want 26 degrees, come in September.
Booking a tour for the arrival day. Flights land late and the day is lost.
Putting the boat on the last day. The meltemi is weaker now and it still appears in the last week.
Walking the rim path at noon. Ten kilometres with no shade is a morning job even in santorini in june.
Treating santorini in june as low season. The last week is high season in every practical sense.
Oia at sunset with a coach party. Several thousand people, and every other rim viewpoint gets the same sun.
