History of Karterados
Karteradosdates back to the 17th century, as it is known. The first houses of the local people were built deep into the rocks. During the 19th century Karterados was one of the biggest villages in Santorini where the captains of the island used to live.
The name Karterados came from the Greek word “karteri” which means ambuscade point. Here the people with the captains bushwhacked the pirates.
