History of Faros
The beacon of Akrotiri was constructed in 1892 by a French flashlight construction company. At the beginning, the flashlight needed crude oil as fuel. During the Second World War the beacon was closed and it reopened in 1945 when the forces of the Greek Navy started the reorganization of the flashlight network of Greece.
In the year of 1983 the flashlight started to get powered with electric power and in the year of 1988 the beacon became totally automated.
